Surrender: A Little Harmless Military Romance

Navy Seal Malachai Dupree has everything a man could want. Well, not everything. The one woman he wants is the one he thinks he can’t have. In his opinion young widow Amanda Forrester is too innocent for his Dominant needs, so he plays the role of supportive friend even if it kills him.

Amanda is tired of being treated as if she were fragile. She might have been through a rough patch losing her husband in the line of duty, but she is not a wimp. Through the last few months, the feelings she has for Mal are more than just friendly. She is more than ready to be the woman he needs in and out of the bedroom.

One night she pushes him too far and the result is more than either of them ever expected. Mal wants forever, but after losing one husband to the service, commitment is just not in Amanda’s vocabulary. What Amanda doesn’t realize is that Mal is one Seal who isn’t backing down until he gets exactly what he wants: Amanda’s total submission.

WARNING, the following book contains: Sexy Navy Seals, a stubborn woman, and of course, a little submission. This book has one of those hot Duprees, so you know that you will need a glass of water to cool off. Every Addict will tell you that reading a Harmless book is anything BUT harmless—so read at your own risk.

Military Week: Melissa Schroeder

Welcome to Mel's Salute to Military Romance! I will be honest with you. For years, I didn't write much military romance. I will be the first to tell you that being a military spouse is just not romantic a lot of times. There are the moves, the TDYs, the OFFICIAL FUNCTIONS (which I usually completely hate) and then there is the feeling that no one in the world understands what you are going through. Then, Malachai Dupree, brother to Chris and Jocelyn, popped up in my head when Jocelyn was talking in A Little Harmless Addiction. It was a kernel of a thought: a spinoff of Harmless but with military men and women.
I will be completely honest with you. I wasn't sure I could do it. When I first said something to my then editor I had with the Harmless publisher, there was little to no interest. Usually when I talk of the military it is to complain about something. One assignment in 20 years in a place with seasons would be the top of my list. But as a military brat myself, I knew there was something else to the military. See, I love romantic suspenses with a military bent. I couldn't write them though. I was born in an Army hospital and have spent most of life immersed in military. I wanted it to be a little more reality based, and sometimes that doesn't thrill readers, lol.
I was a big lover of M*A*S*H growing up and one thing that taught me was there isn't anything pretty about military. But it also taught me something else, something I knew without actually acknowledging it. Military folk are just like everyone else, but their problems all have an added layer to them. Along with the regular squabbles that pop up, you have to move every few years, deal with a spouse who often times HAS to put the job in front of the family (there is that little thing called an oath they take when the enter the military) and a bone deep loneliness that others outside of the military just will never understand. Your life is ruled by the military whether you want it to or not.

So when I sat down to write my first A Little Harmless Military Romance, I felt a lot of pressure. I wanted to make sure that my readers understood what these people and their loved ones go through all the time. I didn't want to glorify it, because a lot of times, it isn't very glory filled. Still I wanted everyone to see the softer side of life, the part that keeps the military man and woman whole while they have to deal with the horrors in the field. There is something about that saying "keep the home fires burning" now more than ever.

SUMMER IS ALMOST HERE!

This time of year is big in the Schroeder household, and it was growing up. Being a military brat, this was the beginning of a few events that shaped my summers. Memorial Day of course started it all off, and my Dad always had a 4th of July party at the house. Where my folks lived in Texas was in perfect viewing spot to see the base fireworks. So, it worked out without the fuss. But the one thing I always loved was Open House. I am not sure if it happened in the summer all the time, but I remember Open House at Sheppard as one of the best times. At that time, there weren't vendors brought in. Instead, they had every squadron working their own booth and allowing them to have their own choice food. We always had Italian food, yeah surprise there, but I loved wandering the food booth area trying all the different types of food. I grew up in an international community as an Air Force brat, much like my heroine in Possession: A Little Harmless Military Romance, Samantha, and my next heroine, Amanada, also grew up as a brat in the Army.

I think growing up that way gives you a different sense of the world. It can be tough and let's be honest, it sucks sometimes, but there is a particular privilege to it also. After I realized that Amanda was also a military brat, it made think about how much I had in common with both women. Completely different personalities for both of them, and neither are really like me. Still, the three of us have that connection of a childhood that only those of us who grew up in it understand.
But I am I digressing as usual, lol.

So, back to the chubby girl's dream of trying all the different foods. I think that it was one of the best memories of a base coming together. You had an area with a lot of more traditional ethnic (at the time, remember, this was the 70's and 80's, and in the middle of nowhere TX where Pizza Hut was ethnic for some people) like Italian and TexMex, but then you also had a corner where a lot of the Asian spouses cooked up the best food. It was was where I had my first taste of lumpia and seaweed (before it was fashionable in the rest of the US).

Oh, and there were planes and crap there, lol. Yeah, I did mention I was chubby, right? Ha! Anyway, I did love it, and every time I think of it, I get warm fuzzies. Not just because of the food, but it was the true meaning of military community. Different cultures, religions, ethnic backgrounds, but we all sort of make up a family. One I am proud of to this day.

Okay, so I have rules for the blog hop, AND I have rules for a prize I am giving away.  Let's do the blog hop rules because that is the big SHINY FIRE.

ATH: MEL

So, we are coming to a close of the whole Addicted to Harmless Party, finally! I wanted to spotlight one more book, my September release, The Last Detail. It was my first MMF, so I am a little nervous how it will be received. But, I really enjoyed writing it. Here is a little taste of the book. I should be getting my copies of the book soon, so why don't we do an ARC copy of the book for the prize with the understanding it might be a few weeks before I have it.

THE LAST DETAIL
Sept 2011
Trust isn’t easy when the ones you want most are out to get you.

Ten years after she ran away from Earth, Lou Campbell is one job—just one more collar—away from earning enough credits to go home. All she has to do is lure Sam Dawson within range of her handcuffs with the promise of fast, hard sex. Easy.

Once she gets him there, keeping her own hands off him isn’t so easy.

Sam’s committed his share of sins, but he’s not guilty of selling secrets. Before he can convince the sexiest bounty hunter he’s ever seen that he’s been betrayed, all hell breaks loose. And he’s on the run with a false accusation on his hands—and a bleeding woman in his arms.

Alone in her boss’s safe house, Lou and Dawson’s simmering attraction explodes into full-blown fireworks.

When Jared Flores walks in on his best hunter and ex-lover in bed together, the surprise is mutual. Worse, the need he has long felt for both of them overrides his better judgment. After the fists fly, the sparks catch fire into a budding three-way romance.

Then Sam disappears, leaving Jared and Lou in a race against time to not only retrieve their lover, but save his life.

Product Warnings
Hot M/F sex, M/F/M sex, and holy moly some really hot MMF sex amongst lots of weapons and fire fights. Deceitful family members, nasty set ups, and an Alpha male whose lovers have naughty punishments in mind—when they catch him.

EXCERPT

Sam Dawson watched the blonde as she approached his table and tried not to show his reaction. Reid and Denton were here for cover, but he didn’t think either contract agent would be happy if they knew he was sporting a boner hard enough to lift the table. He didn’t want it going in a report. And these two would do it just to mess with him.
Not that there would be a report. For some reason, he seemed to have lost his contact at Zenich Industries, the security firm he worked for. No one had picked up his transmissions for the last week. Considering his assignment had been flagged as covert with an immediate suspense, Sam thought it more than a little worrisome he hadn’t heard from them.
Shifting his weight from one hip to another, he winced when his pants drew tight over his crotch. His dick throbbed against the fabric.
Shit. He didn’t need to get itchy over a mean-looking woman. She looked like she was packing enough heat to take down half the bar. With a body like that, and the weapon she was carrying, she had to be trouble. Sam should know better. Women like her could get an agent killed.
Damn if that didn’t interest him even more.

Let me know, if you were a heroine in a futuristic book, would you want to be the damsel who was saved, or would you want to be right there beside the hero in the firefight?

One little date turns into several and soon, Jocelyn finds herself easily addicted to Kai's sensual nature. Resisting him becomes impossible, but Jocelyn isn't ready to trust completely. When Kai discovers she hasn't been telling him everything, Jocelyn is left with two choices: trust her heart, or let the one man she has ever loved go.

Remember, Harmless stories are not for the weak.

He said nothing more, just kept looking at her. She did her best not to fidget but it was hard not to. Even with only a dim streetlight she could see his gaze, the way it followed her lips. The man was going to turn her into a lunatic if he kept looking at her as if he were going to gobble her up.
That thought had heat rolling through her. Her nipples were tight against her lace bra, painfully erect. She shifted her feet and the lace moved against the sensitive flesh. God.
“Well, I guess I should get going.”
“Yeah.”
He placed a hand against the car behind her and leaned in. She didn’t hesitate, didn’t draw back. It was the most natural thing in the world to move into the kiss. Just like the night before, the moment he touched his mouth to hers, she lost every thought. They bled out of her brain and were replaced by the sheer pleasure of having his lips against hers, his tongue slipping into her mouth, and the feel of his body against hers. He slanted his head to deepen the kiss, slipped his arms to her waist and pulled her against him. The heat of him, the feel of his long, hard muscles against her, had her responding. She wanted, wanted him like nothing she had ever wanted before. Her body shimmered with need. She slipped her hands up his arms and over his shoulders, and just like the night fell into the kiss.
He was exotic to the taste, but so normal, so what she needed. She was trying to figure out a way to get him back to her house when a passing car honked their horn.
“Get a room, Kai.”
He pulled back then, gently and with a regretful smile. “I guess we gave the neighbors a show.”
Left unfulfilled again. “Not as good a one if that idiot hadn’t beeped his horn.”

So, what am I giving away??? Two 25 dollar GCs to winner's choice of booksites, amazon, samhain and barnes and noble. Two winners. So, easy peasy and I asked this question before, but, you can answer the same here or come up with something different. Where would you like to see a Harmless story set?

Summer of Love: Turning Paige

Well, I took a break yesterday. Not much of one. I spent the day on some paperwork for the print release of A Little Harmless Obsession and the upcoming digital release. Plus, I finished off the trailer:)

Turning Paige

Librarian Paige’s life has gone to hell. Her loss of sleep thanks to some pretty erotic dreams isn’t helping any. After a particularly bad day, she overloads on a batch of Irish truffles. As she falls asleep, her last wish is that her passionate dream lover were real. When she wakes in the morning, she finds him naked in her bed. Seamus doesn’t know why he started dreaming of this woman, but instinct has him seducing her before he even knows her name. The temptress fills his every need…but she refuses to accept him as her soul mate. Paige cannot believe the passion Seamus stirs within her. Falling in love isn’t something she planned for, but Paige doesn’t think she can let him go. Soon, his appearance disrupts her life and her career. Will Paige be able to accept the changes he has wrought, or will her fear of change bring disaster for both of them?

Review Snippets:

Have to enjoy a good time travel story, it has a touch of humor to it when Seamus is trying to figure everything out in the twenty-first century. He may be a warrior but he also shows his emotions. Well worth the read. Annette Stone, PNR

I love everything that Ms. Schroeder writes and I see that once again she has not disappointed me. This story is amusing and entertaining with just the right amount of sexual heat to keep a reader very interested. Keep on writing these wonderful stories that I so enjoy. Make sure to put this book in your to-be-purchased list. Candy Cay, Coffee Time Romance

This is an amusing romp of a story, containing all the right elements – a lovely heroine, a handsome hero, a couple of villains out for their own nefarious ends, and a happy ending. And of course, I’m always in favor of the librarian getting the handsome guy! ... This story is perfect for relaxing with when you have an hour or two to spare. Jean, Fallen Angel Reviews

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Paige came awake slowly. Her muscles were sore, but a good kind of sore, she thought. She didn’t know why, but there was a particularly sated feeling to her body. As if she’d reached some kind of goal. As she shifted her weight, she came against something very hard…very hot. She frowned and opened her eyes.
An expanse of golden skin was the first thing she saw. Convinced she was still dreaming, Paige rubbed her eyes and blinked. Her vision cleared. No, that was certainly skin. Drawing in a deep breath, she raised her head.
Holy Mother of God! There was a man in her bed. A man she definitely didn’t know. That was not a common occurrence for Paige, to say the least. Especially one so huge.
Slowly, she eased away and sat up. She swallowed the urge to scream. It clogged her throat as fear wound through her system. Her heart beat against her chest. The only thing keeping her from screaming was the fact that he was so huge. Lord knew what he would do if she woke him up that way.
What the hell had she done last night? Closing her eyes, she tried to remember but failed. She opened her eyes and studied her guest.
His hair entranced her. Darker than a moonless night, it reached halfway down his back and spilled across her pink sheets. Several small braids were entwined within the silken strands. His back was to her so she leaned over just a bit to see what his face looked like. She released a breath she didn’t know she’d been holding.
His face was a study in strength and angles. High cheekbones, a strong jaw and a nose that looked as if it had been broken once or twice. His eyes were still closed but she assumed they were darker in color, gray or possibly brown. Impossibly long lashes matched the color of his hair.
He was, in a word, beautiful. And alarming. Just how the hell did he end up in her bed? Paige was positive she’d remember bringing a man to bed, especially one who looked like him. Considering she was lying here naked as the day she was born, it was a fair assumption that she had at least talked to him. She had to know him. He was in her bed and…she lifted the sheet and saw one firm butt cheek…as naked as she was.
She dropped the sheet and closed her eyes. A tingle ran down her spine and she opened her eyes and lifted the sheet again. Lordy, she’d never seen a man with such an exquisite ass. Full, rounded… She curled her fingers into her hand to keep from reaching down to touch it.
“I promise you the front view is a nice as the back,” he said.
Summer of Love: Lessons in Seduction
Good Friday Morning! Today, I am featuring my book, Lessons in Seduction, the second of my Once Upon an Accident Series:) The third book in the series, The Spy Who Loved Her, will be releasing next spring in digital, along with a free short story I am planning for it. Today, I have a big super bonanza prize for ya, so read the excerpt and go down and see what I am talking about for the prize.
LESSONS IN SEDUCTION
Samhain Publishing
What is a lady to do when her chosen rake changes her lessons in seduction to lessons of love?
Book two in the Once Upon an Accident series
Watch the trailer!
Cecily Ware understands how society works. At the age of twenty-six, she has been around long enough to know that she is doomed to spinsterhood. But she refuses to go without ever knowing what it is like to be with a man. So she comes up with a wonderful plan to find a rake to teach her, complete with a list of possibilities. At the top of that list sits Douglas the Duke of Ethingham.
When he asks Lady Cecily to waltz, Douglas never expected her to request seduction, or that it would intrigue him quite as much. With each glance, each smile, each touch, he finds himself falling under her spell, unable to resist her lure. In her he finds a soul mate, someone as lonely as he is, who understands his pain, and will give herself to him without demands or expectations. But as he finds himself falling in love, he also discovers a wicked plot to kill Lady Cicely. As they race to discover who wants her dead, they fall deeper in love, leaving them to decide if the lessons in seduction could lead to a lifetime of happiness
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Douglas, Duke of Ethingham, was every matchmaking mama’s dream come true and nightmare rolled into one delectable package. Cicely had always thought him attractive, although she’d only observed him from a comfortable distance. Since the familial connection between he and Colleen had been revealed, he’d become a regular fixture at the Penwyth townhouse and estate. Cicely and he had become acquaintances of a sort. He rescued her from being a wallflower. She saved him from debutantes and mamas.

She watched him walk through the crowded ballroom, the candlelight caressing his sculpted facial features. From where she stood, his eyes looked ordinary grey. But, she knew about the hint of blue around the iris of his eye and the way it lightened even more when he laughed. Her heart skipped a beat as he headed in her direction.

“You would think he would have been caught by someone by now.”

Cicely jumped, startled by the familiar faint whisper in her right ear, then looked over her shoulder at her aunt Victoria. Petite, yet rounded, Victoria was still the beauty she had been in her youth. While fine lines around most ladies’ eyes would make them appear older, it just added character to Victoria’s face.

They were much the same height, yet Cicely always felt like an elephant next to her. She turned back around but realized she’d lost sight of Douglas. Disappointed, she gave her attention back to her aunt, an empty feeling lining her gut. He had seen her. She knew it. But, he’d seen something better. She tried to push the negative thoughts from her mind and focus on her aunt.

“I have a feeling that His Grace will not be caught unless he wants to be caught.”

Victoria laughed and stepped forward to stand beside Cicely. “That much we agree. Still, he is getting to the point where he should think about putting up a nursery. He is the end of his line. Well, the only one worth anything anyway. I know there is a cousin or two somewhere, but rumor is they are as ghastly as his father and grandfather.”
Something cold slithered into Cicely’s stomach and settled there. Not from her aunt’s description of Douglas’ extended family, butJH rather from the thought of him with another woman. She knew he had to marry, though she had hoped it would not be so soon. At least not until after he helped her with her plan. Okay, really never. If he did have to wed, sharing one memorable night with him would be enough for her to endure whatever simpering fool he married.

She cleared her throat delicately. “His Grace has said before he does not intend to marry for some time.”

When Victoria didn’t respond, Cicely glanced at her. A mysterious smile played about her aunt’s lips.

“You know what they say, Cicely. The right woman could make any man change his mind.”

She doubted any woman would change the duke’s mind, but she nodded just to agree and get the conversation moving. Knowing that this would probably disintegrate into another discussion on her lack of beaus, something that apparently confused her aunt, Cicely decided to change the subject.

“Did I tell you about the diary I found today at the bookstore?”

Victoria gave her a knowing look but said nothing about her lack of tact. “No, you didn’t.”

“It was quite amazing I found it because it was buried at the bottom of a crate. The proprietor told me he’d bought it at some estate sale.”

“Really?” Victoria’s attention had now turned back to the dancers on the floor, but Cicely knew that her aunt had a habit of keeping one eye on her surroundings and her ear to the conversation.

“It is more an accounting than a personal diary. I am not sure what it means or if it is real. But it seems that one of five men kept a diary while they conspired against the throne about the time of the Terror. I have no idea from where they came, but I think they may be very significant.”

The first strains of a waltz sounded before Victoria could answer. Cicely really hated this dance. While she sometimes had requests for country dances from various cousins and gentlemen she knew from The Historical Society, she rarely was asked to waltz.

“Lady Cicely.”

She glanced over her shoulder to find Douglas standing to her left, a smile curving his beautiful lips. Curling her toes into her slippers, she told her heart to stop doing flip-flops. All she could do was stare at him. His wavy dark hair never seemed to stay in place, yet always looked tidy. The mischievous twinkle in his eye sent heat racing up her spine. A few murmurs reached her and brought her out of her stupor. It was then she realized her faux pas. Flushing, she curtsied.

“Your Grace.”

He took her offered hand and waited for her to rise before asking, “Would you honor me with this dance?”

She didn’t pretend not to hear the whispers growing louder. Accustomed to them or not, they were still disturbing. Regardless, she held her head high and looked him right in the eye. “I would be delighted to dance with you, Your Grace.”

He led her out to the dance floor and within moments they were whirling with the other dancers. The feel of his strong hand providing gentle pressure on her waist, his body close to hers made her head spin. The heat of him warmed her front, though she tried not to think about it. Her body already tingled, and she knew from experience she lost all thought when that happened.

“I owe you a world of thanks, Lady Cicely.” He smiled down at her, a genuine smile because the man thought she was no threat to his bachelorhood. And she wasn’t. She didn’t want marriage, but she did want him. “Lady Sara has been after me since I walked in the door and I shudder to think what would happen if I had to dance with her.”

She tried not to laugh, but she couldn’t help it. “You should be ashamed of yourself, Your Grace. She cannot help it that she can’t dance.”

“I danced with her last week and my feet will never be the same. Who would have thought such a small woman could inflict that much pain?” He shook his head and chuckled, clearly amused with himself. “So I am serious when I tell you I owe you a boon.”

This was almost too good to be true. “You will grant me a favor in return?”

He nodded and expertly twirled them around a slower couple. She licked her lips and numbly followed his lead. Truthfully, she knew he thought nothing of the offer. In Douglas’ mind, she was sure he assumed she might ask for a ride in the park, or the use of his box at the theater. This had been handed to her on her silver dancing card.

“Your Grace?”

He leaned closer to hear her. She normally didn’t speak that loud, but with the sound of the orchestra, not to mention the fact she was out of breath from dancing, she understood he was having problems hearing her.

“I call in your boon. I do have a favor to ask of you.”

Nodding, he straightened and again twirled her around. “Ask and you shall receive.”

“I was wondering, if you wouldn’t mind, would you teach me how to seduce a man.”
