Callum in Print and Infatuation news

AMAZON CREATESPACE
Callum is now in print! It was such an easy process that I will probably do it like this more like this. I am not able to put the Harmless books in print because Addiction will not be out until May. It will take a few weeks to hit the other outlets.

Another thing is that Callum is in KDP select. That means it isn't available anywhere else. As I did last month, I am testing out the program, but with a different genre and a newer book. I also want to see how this works in a genre I am not known for.  I know that people with other devices will not be able to read it on them. I apologize for that, but I want to see what this brings me in sales. As a new self-publisher, I need to see what different kinds of promos will get me in the way of sales. Publishers rarely share this info with their authors, at least not with me.

I am not going to do this with all my books. Not unless Paypal makes me do it. But, I do have some other plans for upcoming books, including bundles. I have to get a few more books out before I can start doing that.

In Infatuation news, I have decided to put this in print. Now, it is a novella so I will be adding something to it to make it long enough, but that means Possession will be longer. So a win/win! I am going to be working on it over the next couple of weeks.

Short stories, parties, and surgery

Hello, everyone! It has been a busy week of writing and promo planning for me. I am about to finish up A Little Harmless Fascination rough draft today and will be diving into Possession next. They are my next releases, April and May. I have some updates on some things that will be happening.

As of right now, if you win a prize from me that must be mailed, it will be at least two weeks. My wonderful PA Brandy Walker had surgery on her arm and needs some time to heal. I am sure all of you will understand:)  Email from the contact on my website will also be slow during this time.
Harmless shorts are about to change. From now on, they will be offered free individually on a members' only kind of special. I am planning on having a members' only section on my new website, but it might be months before it is ready to go. So, Brandy and I will come up with something else before then. Jocelyn and Kai need their short story and I will have it out this spring. The only way you will be able to get it outside of that is in collections. I am going to start bundling my Harmless shorts and releasing them. They will be entitled Harmless Love. I am hoping to have the first one out in the April/May time period.
Callum is about to be put in KDP select starting March 1. Since ALH Submission was so successful, I wanted to try test it with a fairly new book in a different genre and see what happened. So, if you buy from anyone but Kindle, make sure you get it by Feb 29th as I will be pulling it down the morning of March 1.  I want to see the difference in sales and borrowing for other genres. I am still learning this business of self-publishing so please be patient with me. I plan on doing some other promotions in the coming month as I test out some of my marketing ideas.
If you are going to AAD, the two public functions I am sponsoring are open to everyone, but a word of caution. If you don't sign up for the tickets you could miss out on promo stuff. I am basing my promo ordering on the number of people signed up for the event. While I understand that everyone can come in and I will be happy to hang out, I will have to make sure that I don't waste money on stuff. ESPECIALLY the huge things. Little stuff I will have a lot of, and I will be happy to buy 400 of anything for readers, but I am also working on getting this stuff there. While I am driving, I will have to haul all this stuff and I want to make sure there is a reason:) Make sure you go get your tickets if you are signed up for AAD TICKETS. Registration is completely sold out for the entire con but there is a wait list.
That's it. I am back to writing hoping I can go ahead and finish up the fugly rough draft of the book so I can dive into Deke and Sam's book tomorrow morning.

An Experiment: A Little Harmless Submission

I am going to do an experiment with ALH Submission. I am going to enroll it in KDP. I know readers might not know about it, but I will do my best explain it.
I have to pull down my book everywhere for 90 days that it will be in the the KDP select Amazon program. It will be in the lending program where you can check out one book a month if you are a prime member. On top of that, I am allowed to put the book up for free. I am not sure if I will do that yet, but it is an option I would like to have in my back pocket if I want to do it when A Little Harmless Fascination releases.
So, starting on FEB 15th, I will begin to pull down ALH Submission. If you would like to buy it, make sure you get it if you need it for another device. I WILL return it after the 90 days. It is an experiment to see how it goes. I have other things I would like to try out, but this is one thing that has been getting a lot of buzz and I would like to see how it goes. You have five days, including today, to get the book outside of Amazon. It takes a few days to be pulled down everywhere else, so it will be a few days before it will go into the select program. I did pull it off Smashwords already because I wasn't sure how long it would take to pull from other places. So, if you want it and you have another device, please, go get it now. I am not trying to say Kindle is better, but this is an experiment for me to see how this works. As of right now, I would never do this with a new book. I just don't think it is worth it.

Sunday Scribbles: A Test Case for KDP Select

I should be landing about the time this goes up on the blog. We had a good time in Hawaii, and did a lot of work. Some of it was discussions about the market and what we could do to increase sales, diversify, blah blah. One of the things I had already decided on was testing the KDP select.

For those of you who don't know, KDP Select means you cannot have the book on sale at ANY other retailer during the 90 days you give Kindle an exclusive. There are perks though. You get a % of the lending money, January it is up to 700,000 bucks and Feb is already slated for 600,000, based on the number of people who "check" your book out for the month and the number of other authors who are in the program. Also, you are allowed to put your book up for free for five days any time during the 90 days. I am still hesitant to do with this with new releases but I have decided to try this with A Little Harmless Submission. It will be out over 5 months before I get this going, and I am giving my readers fair warning on it.

There are several reasons I am doing this. One of my mantras for self-publishing, and really, publishing of any sort these days, is diversify. It is the only way to survive. Another reason is my kindle sales have soared while my Nook sales have dwindled in the last year. I have no idea why. Maybe my readers moved to kindle devices? If B and N decides to do this, then I will definitely jump on board. But one of the things I have never liked about B and N as a reader and writer is they are not as organized. They make you search out the free books. With Amazon, the site is very reader driven and that info is easy to find.

With the release of A Little Harmless Fascination in late March, I decided to try this now, to see how it works. I am adding a little bit to this edition of A Little Harmless Submission, including all the short stories in the Harmless story line. That edition will release in wide distribution in June at the earliest. I know that some Nook readers will be upset, but I want to try this out. I do make good money at Nook but it is about a 1/3 of what I make at Amazon. I am always on the look out for ways to diversify, and so I want to try this out and see what happens:)

If you are a Nook reader and would like to get it before I pull it from there and everywhere else, please get it within the next 14 days, because it will be off sale after that.

I will update you on the results when I am done with my 90 days.
