Mel's Lei Day CELEBRATION

May day is called Lei Day in Hawaii. That is King Kamehameha and they do cover him with Leis on Lei day. Well, he does get Lei'd a lot, lol. Many of the statues across Hawaii are covered in them during special celebrations like Lei Day. It is a huge part of a their culture, and there is something about getting a lei in Hawaii.  This year marks the 85th anniversary celebration and because most of the Harmless books have some kind of connection to the islands, I would have a big party here on the blog.

A Little Harmless Addiction is now officially in print and the last of the publisher Harmless books. A Little Harmless Fascination is now in digital and will be in print in the next few weeks along with Infatuation.

So, I am going to have a little contest and you just leave your answer down there in the comments. I will draw the winner THURSDAY at NOON central US Time. And, what do I have for y'all? Well, we have a Hawaiian bag that Brandy and I picked up this year at the Swap Meet, and we can fill it with lots of Hawaiian goodies including a print of A Little Harmless Submission, some Harmless swag, and how about a beach towel since summer is coming up. Oh, and why don't I spread the love and offer  up two runner up swag packs of Harmless fun.

So, what do I want to know? If you had a chance to go to Hawaii this year, what would you like to do? Are you a touristy kind of person who loves to hit all those places you've seen in movies and on TV? Or do you want to hang out on the beach and maybe dabble in some shopping? Or, are you in it for adventure, to do some surfing, parasailing or a little hiking? Let me know, and I will put your name in the pot.

One month and counting

On January 21st, Brandy and I will be on our way to Hawaii. We are so pumped we can barely talk about it because we both would go insane, lol. We plan on having some fun, but we are doing some work while there. We are going to try to talk to plan the Hawaii Harmless Reader get together, do videos and pics of places I mention in the Harmless books, and SHOP. One of the places I am going to be going is the Aloha Swap Meet. If you are local, you know about this. It is the BEST place to get little Hawaiian things, and I am going to do shopping for my ADDICTS. Here is a great video about it. If you want to watch all Wayde's Videos on Youtube, they are pretty good and informative.

On the Road

I am on my way back to visit family in the state that shall not be named. But, as Brandy and I move closer to our HARMLESS IN HAWAII trip, I thought I would periodically put up some video. This is one of my favorite places on the island, the North Shore. It is kind of relaxing so take the time to watch and ignore the stress that comes with this time of year.

We lived in Hawaii for the last decade anniversary. We only lived about ten minutes away from where the Arizona rests below the water. We drove by the Memorial several times a week there, and it was a part of our every day lives. Les worked in a building that still bore the marks of the attacks with bullet holes in the stairs.

One of the great things about my trip next month with Brandy is to take her there. We are both military brats, she is a veteran, and we both have military husbands. No matter what country you call home, please remember all of those who died this day 70 years ago, and remember the thousands who suffered over the next few years during the war.

Hawaiian Music-Jake Shimabukuro

I write to a lot of different music, but when I am doing a Harmless book, I tend to have a few more songs from the Hawaiian Islands. When I say that, everyone mentions Brother Iz, who is a favorite, but I also like Jake Shimabukuro. I never thought I would be one for ukele music until we moved there and Jake, well, he is amazing. I mean, he plays The Bohemian Rhapsody on it. Here are a few of my favs, including one he filmed in Hawaii Kai which is one of my favorite places on the island. I loved going there to watch the windsurfers at sunset there.

On the road...

In just about an hour, I am leaving for a fun weekend with Kris Cook, Ali Flores and Joy Harris. Monday, Rome's interview will be going live so make sure you come by and see what he has to say. We are talking Hawaii, Ohana (family) and what makes him fall for a woman. It was definitely an interesting time:) Oh, and make sure to follow #harmlessinsavannah to keep up with all our crazy happenings.

I thought I would leave you with something from Youtube. This is one of my favorite drives on Hawaii:
