Guest Post & Giveaway: Jenn LeBlanc

Ahhhh!!! Here I am! I am so excited to be here today because Melissa is one of my favorite authors. Not only is her harmless series just amazingly hawt and saucy but she’s just good people.

So, me, my name is Jenn LeBlanc and I am a new author. My first book, THE RAKE AND THE RECLUSE was released last February and has caused a ruckus. It’s illustrated. The whole thing. It’s like a romance cover on steroids.

It wasn’t published quite the way I wanted to so I’ve worked hard all year and I started republishing it, with a new edit, new content and images as a six part serial novel. The first four parts, FREEDOM, FOUND, TAKEN and RUINATION are already available, and SUBMISSION just came out on the 14th. YAY!!

SO as Mel likes my photography I figured I would bring a selection of images from my books, and from my cover stock photography. Because who wants to listen to me talk anyway when I can supply hawt men?

Yeah. I thought so. So without further whatevers:

Melissa! Thank you for having me over for some coffee and smut. It’s been fun! Can’t wait to have you out to my studio in person. That will be fun. :)

I am giving away a full set of the serial ebook! All you have to do to enter is leave me a comment here, ASK ME ANYTHING!! Include your email address, you’ll also be entered to win the grand prize on my tour as well!

See you all around the internets!!

Jenn

Blurb:

A woman out of time.
A man stifled by propriety.
A nemesis determined to take her away.
A brother to the rescue.

How will a powerful Duke deal with a woman who doesn't know her place? How will a woman used to the 21st century survive in time where she is considered property?

Francine Larrabee woke up on the wrong side of the century. She was fairly certain she went to sleep in her own comfy bed, but she doesn’t quite seem to be there now. Only adding to her problems is that she has no voice, is constantly being glowered at by a large, stunning man who is obsessed with propriety, and she is apparently betrothed to another horrid little man, determined to ruin her, and any other girls that get in his way.
How does she find herself in the past, when she couldn’t even find herself in her present? How does a self sufficient businesswoman survive in a time when women were still considered property for the whole of their lives and what is she going to do with this man who draws her to him so fiercely.

I'm wondering just how long it took to choose the exact models you would have envisaged?

Thank you Chris! I have so much fun working with Melissa. She is a great person and such a creative force in writing. Exactly the kind of client everyone hopes for!

Marybelle it takes awhile. I was actually looking for Perry, the brother in my serial, for the better part of a year, I get pretty picky. Sometimes guys work, and sometimes not. Some of the prettiest men just can't manage a decent face once in front of a camera, and others exude so much energy and raw power their abs become irrelevant. (well, almost.)

The whole process is fun, and I love working with new faces. I'm actually testing a guy today who might end up being Angus!! (if you don't know who Angus is... Get busy with Callum.)

Thanks for stopping by!

Those pictures are amazing! This series recently caught my attention and I have added it to my TBR pile. How did you get into this career?

I love your photography work and am intrigued by the book descriptions.

My question is...well, juvenile maybe but how many times do you want to jump the hot models you photograph?

And seriously, how did you get started in romance book covers?

Jenn said...

I kinda fell into it backwards actually. I have degrees in FA Photo and Photojournalism, I actually have several national awards for my work as a PJ, including one for the Gulf Oil Spill. But...I wrote this saucy book, then decided to illustrate it, and then other authors took note of my images and asked me about shooting for them. And now? I love it. It is so much fun!

I've been shooting since I was about 8 and my parents bought me a little 110 camera for Christmas. I was just born to be a photographer, it was never a conscious choice... It was never a choice at all really. It's not just what I do, it really is who I am. :)

Jenn said...

Haha! Ursula, it's funny, maybe I'm weird but I really don't. I see them as light and shadow. I don't really see them as hot guys until later. When I'm in the studio it's all about form and movement and the play of light for me. Now when I go to edit I'm like WHOA!! That's hawt! LOL!

Oh!! And thank you!! :)

Great pictures! Love the cowboy! When did you decide to venture from behind the lense to writing? Thanks for sharing your eye goodies with us!

Jenn... congratulations for being a guest author today. It's a pleasure to get to know you and the Hawt pictorial that kickstarts a girls day... hehe.

Question: is more than one allowed... hehe
1. where do you find all the gorgeous hotties?

2. how do you choose which photo is the one? With all the photo's a photographer takes it must be hard to narrow the choice pic when there is so much yumminess offered up in each shot...

ps: found you at FB... now to go and add some Jenn books to my wish list of hot reads... it's great catching up with new friends through other authors. It's how I've found such fabulous reads.

hugs
Darlene

Tami I started writing this book in March of 2009. I never intended to be a writer in fact I failed most of my English composition and AP English classes. Teachers hated me. So I thought I was awful. Turns out I was just different and they followed the rules too closely.

Darlene, ask AWAY!! I find models all over the place. I use online sites, browse the web then use software to track images to owners so I can find the models, and recently, I test guys that Melissa find that she likes ;)

YES!! It is very difficult at times to narrow down the image. But sometimes, we'll be shooting and I can just feel it. That one image that is going to kill the rest. Actually that image happens more often than not, and three images recently like that made it to Melissa's covers. There is just something special when everything comes together in a split second and it can't be replicated.

THANK YOU!! I love meeting mew readers and chatting everyone up! It's so much fun. I've had a great time with everyone here, I knew Mel's readers would be AWESOME. :)

Haha Monique, yes it does. But he is a Rake so... I hope you are enjoying it. :)

And that guy is Mitchell. He is a former pro rugby player and he is Eli, the cowboy, on one of Mel's Harmless covers! He is a LOT of fun, and originally from South Africa so he has a beautiful accent.

We will see more of him. ;)

Jenn - I remember reading about your book, but didn't really pay attention.

Then I started looking at more of your photos courtesy of the Harmless covers. And now I get it. What a cool idea. I definitely want to read this. Your photographs are amazing.

I'm struggling with how to word this q so it makes sense... How much of the finished picture is "straight from the camera" vs photoshopped? What kind of stuff gets added - backgrounds? props? shading?

I love the pictures, they are hot!! You do an amazing job!! Keep up the drool worthy work!! :)

How fun, Jenn! Congrats on your debut, and thanks for hanging out! What are your favorite genres to read? And have you always been a reader?

Gorgeous photos, but I'm sure you've heard that a million times!

Hi Kog! That's a compliment there! THANK YOU! I hoe you enjoy the book and the images. As for your question, it depends. The images you've seen for my book there isn't much photoshop, I clean up stuff like blemishes, and D has some tattoos I remove, because the Duke and Viscount do not have tattoos. But other than that it's all in camera. I work with the studio lighting for the mood I want.

As for Mel's covers there is a lot of design work there, in general when I shoot stock I shoot on a white or black background and any texture or background you see will be added by the amazing Miss Kendra. The flags for the Military series is all her, as well as the beautifully smooth back on Guy, because he has a full back piece. Thank you for the question!

Sasha I will do my very best!! Thank you!!

flchen I have always been a reader, but I did not discover romance until I actually started writing one and thought....uh...do books DO THIS?!?! Then I was hooked. That was about three years ago and I've read, probably close to 400 romance novels since then. Let's call it research.

I grew up reading Stephen King (and have become a super jumpy human) Anne Rice - I actually did read THE CLAIMING OF SLEEPING BEAUTY when I was in high school. That was shocking to me back then but I liked it. Of course I had no way to research and find more books like that when I was in high school, the internet was only just. :) But I fell in love with Lestat and Armand and still don't think Vampires should sparkle or watch you while you sleep without your knowledge or consent. ;)

My favorite genre now is Historical Romance, and I still have a soft spot for non sparkly vampires, so Mel's Victorian Vamp series is going to make me VERY VERY happy. :)

what advice would you give to an aspiring writer...

tiner04@yahoo.com

Jenn said...

Oh Mistress, my best advice is to ask that question of as many writers as you can. Second to that I say push forward. Don't listen when you're told no if you TRULY believe in what you've done. I can't even tell you how many agents said they couldn't represent me unless I ditched the images. I believed in my idea, and now? I;m glad I fought for it.

It will be a fight. It will be difficult. You will have to let certain things go, whether it be phrases or words that you love...you have to learn to let things go, but fight. And never stop fighting.

:)
