Last month, Avon did a big push for Ovarian Cancer Awareness. They released seven historical books including some of my favorite authors. Here is the verbage from their website:
September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, and Avon Books is urging our authors and readers to learn about the symptoms of ovarian cancer, and to help spread the "K.I.S.S. and Teal" message. Avon Books has made an initial donation of $25,000 to the Alliance. And—with your help—Avon Books has also committed to donating 25¢ from the sale of each book, physical and eBook, in the "K.I.S.S. and Teal" promotion between 8/30/2011 and 2/28/2012, up to an additional $25,000 toward programs that support ovarian cancer patients and their families. So, help us spread the word (you can download an ad for your website or blog here) and reach our goal of $50,000 which will benefit all the women in our lives.
Also, you can make a personal donation to the foundation by clicking here.
I am going to be giving away all seven books in print along with The Accidental Countess and Lessons in Seduction signed by me and a necklace:What do you have to do? Read the blurbs for the books, and then meet me down at the bottom for the question. Answer the question and get your name in the bag for the big old prize. I will be drawing a name using Random.org Monday at noon, central US time!
The deliciously witty first novel from Lynsay Sands
Lady Emmalene Eberhart wanted to do it. She’d even begged an audience with the King so that he would order her husband to do it— because she was determined to be a good wife. But then her husband died, and Emma remained a virgin.
Now the innocent young beauty finds herself with an ample dowry and promised to Amaury de Aneford, a landless knight whose able sword helped defend the King’s crown.
Surely her new husband would want to do the deed, for his rugged good looks certainly make Emma’s heart skip more than a beat. And Emma suspects there is more to a wedding night than just a sound sleep … and more to true love than she ever imagined.

You are cordially invited to the wedding of Miss Heather Cynster … but not before she encounters kidnappers, danger, and a daring rescue at the hands of Viscount Breckenridge
Determined to hunt down her very own hero, one who will sweep her off her feet and into wedded bliss, and despairing of finding him in London’s staid ballrooms, Heather Cynster steps out of her safe world and boldly attends a racy soiree.
But her promising hunt is ruined by the supremely interfering Viscount Breckenridge, who whisks her out of scandal—and straight into danger, when a mysterious enemy seizes her, bundles her into a coach, and conveys her out of London.
Now it’s up to the notorious Breckenridge to prove himself the hero she’s been searching for all along …
A beautiful thief has stolen the heart of the one man in London whose secrets are as dangerous as her own …
Shrewd and wily, pickpocket Temperance Smith needs no man’s favor to survive on London’s unforgiving streets—even when she’s caught red-handed by an officer of the hated dragoons.
On leave from India to find a proper bride in London, Captain Miles Trevelyan is easy prey for a seasoned pickpocket like Temperance. But when the dazzling thief steals first his wallet, then his heart, his pursuit throws them into a deadly world of treason and betrayal that will force them to question everything they know about love, loyalty, and desire. For there can be no middle ground for these two stormy-tempered Scorpios entangled in the star-crossed romance that threatens to destroy them both.
She’d never forgotten him …
Miss Octavia Pierce is witty, well-off … and shockingly unwed. Still, she is far too successful in society to remain on the shelf forever, and her family has hopes that Octavia will finally make the perfect match. What they don’t know is that, years earlier, Octavia was scandalously tempted by the one man capable of sweeping her off her feet— the man now known as the Marquess of DoreĆ©.
A third son, never meant to inherit, Lord Ben DoreĆ© has abandoned his past and grown accustomed to his illustrious new position of wealth and power. But he has never forgotten Octavia, and now she desperately needs his help in a most dangerous, clandestine matter. Although she claims she has put the memories of the passion they shared behind her, Ben is determined to once again have her in his arms—and in his bed.
Welcome to Spindle Cove, where the ladies with delicate constitutions come for the sea air, and men in their prime are … nowhere to be found.
Or are they?
Spindle Cove is the destination of choice for certain types of well-bred young ladies: the painfully shy, young wives disenchanted with matrimony, and young girls too enchanted with the wrong men; it is a haven for those who live there.
Victor Bramwell, the new Earl of Rycliff, knows he doesn’t belong here. So far as he can tell, there’s nothing in this place but spinsters … and sheep. But he has no choice, he has orders to gather a militia. It’s a simple mission, made complicated by the spirited, exquisite Susanna Finch—a woman who is determined to save her personal utopia from the invasion of Bram’s makeshift army.
Susanna has no use for aggravating men; Bram has sworn off interfering women. The scene is set for an epic battle…but who can be named the winner when both have so much to lose?
A bargain that was all business … and pure passion.
Neither wealth nor beauty will help Lady Francesca Gordon win custody of her young niece Georgina, saving the girl from a cruel stepmother; she needs London’s top solicitor for that. But when Edward de Lacey, son of the powerful Duke of Durham, hires away the one man who can do the job, Francesca decides Edward himself must champion her case … if only she can melt the dashing lord’s stony heart.
Edward has reason to be guarded, though. London’s tabloids have just exposed a secret that could ruin his entire family. When Francesca offers a unique chance to undo the damage, Edward is forced to agree to a partnership … and now, each moment together feeds the flames of his scandalous longing for the passionate widow. But when Georgina disappears, fate will test them both … and leave their love hanging in the balance.

It’s never wise to blackmail a highwayman.
Lady Corinne, rebellious daughter of the duke of Banfield, refuses to marry Lord Freddie Sherwin. Yes, he’s the catch of the Season and the man her father chose for her. He’s also the most despicable male of her acquaintance. With her wedding only weeks away, she flees and finds herself a prisoner of the notorious Thorn!
Who says the devil isn’t a woman?
The rich and powerful tremble at the highwayman’s name, while England’s villagers rejoice in his bold exploits. His identity is a secret; his life a mystery—until Lady Corinne tumbles into his arms. If the Thorn wants her silence, he must hide her until her wedding day passes. It’s a devil’s bargain and one that can only lead to a hangman’s noose.
Corinne believes it the perfect plan—until her highwayman reveals a passionate lover’s heart, and she realizes that in the seduction of scandal, she may have found the hero she’s been waiting for her whole life.
HERE IS THE QUESTION:
What is your favorite backdrop for a story? Do you like to escape to the Highlands and spend time with kilt wearing warriors, spend time with sexy military men in our modern world, or fight aliens on other planets? Or something else entirely? Just let me know and you get your name in that bag for the BIG PRIZE!

You know me Melissa I love them all!! I love history so a good Scottish warrior always pushes my buttons. On the other hand a man who serves his country and looks hot in a uniform just makes me melt. Hell I will take a fantastic romance at anytime or any place.
My favorite backdrop varies on the book type. If we're talking historical, I love the house parties or books that sequester you an estate from the reaches of the ton. A lot of naughty stuff can happen there. For paranormal I like an urban backdrop. Nothing says hot and sexy like vamps and shifters running through the streets of New Orleans or Chicago. For suspense and thrillers I like a good exotic backdrop, take me away to Italy, Greece, or the jam packed streets of Tokoyo.
So many choice and so many thrills. Great question and some great books.
I love them all but if I have to pick just one then it's got to be Aliens and Star-hopping all the way :D
I don't think tha I have a preference. You authors make such great descriptions that sometimes I can actually picture myself there. I do tend to like the ballroom backdrops, picturing the women in their gowns and the men in all their finery ;)

I have a few favorite backdrops for books. First of all for the historical romances that I really love, I adore the ballroom settings where the young Debutantes stand around in their beautiful gowns waiting to be noticed by the current "Hero" of the ton.I also love the house parties where lots of naughty goings on occur. I also like the games that they play to keep themselves entertained.
Another backdrop that I like is when the book is set in Cornwall where they live in an amazing castle, battle the smugglers and ride the wild Cornish moors and inevitably end up falling in love.
Lastly, I adore the Highlanders where they prance around in their kilts, swing their claymores and swords and then capture a beautiful highland lass and love them to pieces.
I get totally engrossed into the books I read and always fall in love with the hero and wish that I was his heroine. lol
Thank you for this awesome opportunity.

I'm thrilled to see that along with awareness this program is also directed towards supporting ovarian cancer patients and their families.
A favorite backdrop? I have enjoyed all the worlds I have been transported to reading romance fiction. With so many worlds to explore, from the Scottish Highlands to the futuristic world of Arcadia, who could ever chose one?

Although I enjoy all those backdrops, it's the story itself that draws me in. A strong hero and heroine win me over every time no matter the time period. If I have to pick one though, I choose futuristic. I love the differing views of what the world will look like in the future and what cool new contraptions will be offered.

How wonderful that the authors s i love are a part of the charity that I love. Thank you Melissa....*S*
I love the military as my favorite backdrop, but love all of them in one form or another. The Scottish Highlands and Celtics especially...*S*
Thank you for give away !

This such a wonderful program, raising awareness for ovarian cancer. Usually, it's breast cancer awareness that's splashed all over the place. (not that it's a bad thing)
Give me a warrior in a kilt wielding a broadsword in the Highlands any day or a couple in a carriage on a roadtrip through the lush countryside. I like a change in my scenery but the lush ballrooms of London and house parties in the country keep calling me back. I've never been to the stars before. :)

oops, sorry about first post. Didn't mean to delete it.(havinga Homer Simpson DOH! moment)lol
For me it sometimes depends on my mood. I may feel like reading an historical set in the Highlands with a kilted man and his trusty Claymore LOL. Or if maybe a little adventure into outer space with the sexy alien captain of the space ship. Perhaps a run in with a shapeshifter while out hiking the trail in a Park might be what peaks my interest. But I think of all the possibilities, I do like my contemporary stories. Whether it's cowboys on the ranch or a good-hearted biker dude in the right time and right place, they seem to be the ones I go for the most (it's a slim margin though).

Kilt wearing warriors certainly does it for me, but I also love a man in a Regency ballroom or a man in uniform. I love them all. Just give me a great story & I'm happy.

I honestly don't have a favorite backdrop. As long as the story itself is good I don't care.
Gimme a Highlander anytime, any day!!!!
I love paranormal and supernatural wether present past or future.
What a wonderful program, raising awareness for ovarian cancer. It's great to see the authors I like participating in such a worthy endeavor. I don't have a favorite backdrop. I like paranormal, and sci fi romance, regardless of where it is set.
Thank you for the chance to win.

I love them all however recently I have been reading some contemporary western (love those cowboys) and spent some reading time in the highlands.
Thanks for the chance.

For me, it depends on the story. For historicals, I like Scottish Highlands, Regency England, American Old West. For urban fantasy and paranormals, as long as the world the author has created fits the story, I am happy. For contemporary romance, I like small towns, islands, and big cities. Thanks for the great giveaway. Such an awesome cause.
I love them all but I really enjoy the highlands and military men. I just love books.

I just left a week reading about hot manly highlanders, but my heart will always be in Darcy's Regency England. I especially love a good erotic romance set there.
Hey Melissa, I really don't know what my favorite backdrop would be. I love the beach, the pomp & chivalry of the past, and the heat and excitement of the city. I enjoy any back drop really. Thanks! Tami

I actually like all of the choices, because I love reading. My most favorite would be those men in Kilts and then Those English set books but I certainly don't mind being shot out to space.

My Grandma died of Ovarian Cancer so this is near and dear to my heart. My favorite backdrops vary depending on my mood. i started off reading a lot of Paranormal books, but really love modern day stories that i can relate to. Absolutely love stories based around BDSM and acticities in a "club," as long as there is a good romance!
