I will actually post that here so you all can link over to it for awhile. I am super excited by it. It is being tested by folks this weekend I believe and I am finishing up all the links today and tomorrow.<br />
It is going to be such a cool site, with extras about lots of the series, easy navigation and the link update system is soooooo easy. I can plug the link in as soon as I get it so it will be updated for y'all. It has been close to a year in the making and it is going to ROCK. So, I am off to work, to write and to get ready for AAD! Also, I will be having a new blog contest in August as soon as we get it all straightened away. Have a great weekend!Melissa Schroederhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12782188611371146688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12884470.post-17775729564588119592012-07-26T04:38:00.000-05:002012-07-26T04:38:20.503-05:00TRADING CARDS<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am bringing an insane amount of promo with me to Authors After Dark. I have always said that once I was making money where I could afford it, I would definitely do it. I have lots of different cover flats, some magnets, bookmarks and then, I have a few surprises for everyone;) Here are two of the newest additions to my promo, newly designed trading cards. Brandy Walker designed them for me.</div>

Well, they have taken it off and the download sample is just a very short sample. I am not sure if they are doing this for everyone though, so if you are an author, I would definitely check. So, thanks to B and N for doing that. Next time guys, you might want to test it out before going live.<br />
<br />
So, I am trying to take it easy, finish up the next Kiera West book, keep the bp that was stroke level just a few weeks ago normal, when I get a frantic email from a fellow author. (I did not ask for permission to use her name so I won't put it in here.)<br />
Seems that the some books have a "free sampling' of their books on Barnes and Noble, which is the ENTIRE BOOK. Yes, this happened to several of my books there. And yes, I pulled them. They were selling, but dammit, I am not going to allow my books to be posted by a retailer for free! I know this hurts my nook readers. I am a best seller there and it is where I make most my money. But emails to PUBIT have not be returned. This apparently started last night. People who were getting sales every day are now losing sales, and not having ONE BOOK SELL. This is NOT good.<br />
So, Nook readers, if you want your books back up, you are going to have to let BARNES AND NOBLE PUBIT and B and N know about it.<br />
Email from their site and let them know you are unhappy about it your social media.<br />

facebook.com/nook<br />
twitter.com/bnbuzz<br />
twitter.com/nookbn<br />
I don't mind giving a full chapter sample of my books. In fact, the new website that is about to go live will feature first full chapters of my books. But I refuse to have my book go completely free forever. Sorry, I need to make a living.<br />

One of my favorite shows is The Glades. In fact, I have been noticing that a few of my favorite shows are titled like that. The Glades, The Closer, and The Killing come to mind.<br />
But I digress. Matt here was the inspiration for Kade in Infatuation, and yes, our Matt is an Aussie:)<br />

So, I figured, why not have A Little Harmless Military Romance Anthology! Now the final cover did not have the AAD 2012 moniker because I wasn't sure if I would still make it exclusive. But, I will have it there and it will only be sold there.<br />
It includes all three stories out now: Infatuation, Possession, Surrender and is a massive book.<br />
I am going to have a limited about of copies, but if there is a lot of interest, I will order more for it.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vEi9lIHVWi0/T9fA8ofpLUI/AAAAAAAAAwY/7E8-Tjvhx1g/s1600/BB_Desire_v2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vEi9lIHVWi0/T9fA8ofpLUI/AAAAAAAAAwY/7E8-Tjvhx1g/s320/BB_Desire_v2.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
Many of my readers on FB and Twitter already know that I was recently diagnosed with very high blood pressure. It is now under control, but the first few weeks while they were playing with the meds, were very hard on me. Nothing like bending over to pick something up off the ground and almost passing out. Either way, I was ordered to start taking it easier. I am a workaholic and tend not to understand that I am pushing myself too hard. What it means is that I have to slow down a bit on the writing. Not much, but I really need to make sure that if I need a break that I step away from the computer. So, that is why Desire by Blood has been pushed back a few weeks and it will probably not be at AAD. Now, I will have uncorrected ARCS for it at AAD. Or that is the plan. These days, I cannot say anything for sure because some days, like yesterday, ROCK, and other days, just suck. Sort of like today.<br />
One other thing, I will NOT be doing any major updating to the website. Wax Creative is almost done with my new site and I am just cannot deal with having to do a bunch of updates at the moment. Once the new site goes up, and it is SUPER COOL, the updating system will be streamlined and links to various online places will be included. It will be much more user friendly with all kinds of cool stuff. Also, I will not be doing that much blogging because I am going to start a new wordpress blog. But I will be throwing a HUGE party on my blog when I go live and I will also have a newsletter contest.<br />
I am sure all of you can understand that this is a very trying time for my family and me. Les is busy as course director through all of this and I have to push ahead and get everything finalized for AAD. I do not want people to think that I am being lazy, it is just a necessity right now or I would end up cancelling things like I did in 2007.<br />
I hope readers are not too upset. I promise, come this late summer and early fall, everything will be up to date and the site, OMG, it is KICK ASS.Melissa Schroederhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12782188611371146688noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12884470.post-11944181804351808862012-07-10T17:04:00.001-05:002012-07-10T17:04:35.441-05:00EXCITING NEWS!!!!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Callum has been nominated for ARe's Hero Contest this summer! I am so excited. I do have a soft spot for my McLennans and especially Callum. There will be several rounds and it is for the entire month August!!!<br />
I will post all the particulars as soon as it goes up!Melissa Schroederhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12782188611371146688noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12884470.post-30779112106493741392012-07-07T08:00:00.000-05:002012-07-07T08:00:01.680-05:00Sexy Saturday: Soundtrack for ALH Fantasy<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Yes, I am working on getting Desire by Blood done, but I am getting ready for Fantasy next. All three of the characters came awake for me this week and they won't shut the hell up while I work. I predict when I sit down to finish off that book, they will be silent, bastards.<br />
But, I have already found the love song for all three of them. There will probably be others that will represent the couplings. But this one...it pretty much sums up the relationship for the three of them. And, it was filmed in Miami of all places--where the three of them live. A huge chunk of the book will be the week they spend in Hawaii together, but they do call Miami home.<br />
Kenny Chesney is always in the running for singing songs on my writing soundtracks, especially that last few years. It is rather interesting that in this story, Maura has dyed her hair blonde, but she is originally a brunette, and looks a little like the woman in the video.<br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">Navy Seal Malachai Dupree has everything a man could want. Well, not everything. The one woman he wants is the one he thinks he can’t have. In his opinion young widow Amanda Forrester is too innocent for his Dominant needs, so he plays the role of supportive friend even if it kills him.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">Amanda is tired of being treated as if she were fragile. She might have been through a rough patch losing her husband in the line of duty, but she is not a wimp. Through the last few months, the feelings she has for Mal are more than just friendly. She is more than ready to be the woman he needs in and out of the bedroom. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">One night she pushes him too far and the result is more than either of them ever expected. Mal wants forever, but after losing one husband to the service, commitment is just not in Amanda’s vocabulary. What Amanda doesn’t realize is that Mal is one Seal who isn’t backing down until he gets exactly what he wants: Amanda’s total submission.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">WARNING, the following book contains: Sexy Navy Seals, a stubborn woman, and of course, a little submission. This book has one of those hot Duprees, so you know that you will need a glass of water to cool off. Every Addict will tell you that reading a Harmless book is anything BUT harmless—so read at your own risk.</span>Melissa Schroederhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12782188611371146688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12884470.post-43003632723255743432012-07-02T08:08:00.000-05:002012-07-02T08:08:08.108-05:00Some admin stuff...Hey there its Brandy. I'm popping on Mel's blog to put a couple of things out.<br />
<br />
First up, its July. Yeah crazy that half the year is already over. And yes I'm sure you're like "We know its July Brandy. Why are you telling us?" Well that's because July bring a couple of changes to the blog.<br />
<br />
Mel is in the process of updating her website with a brand new look and the blog will be rolled into it. With the changes taking effect in the next couple of months we decided there would be no scheduled guest bloggers for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if one pops up now and then but I will not be actively looking for or scheduling guest authors or bloggers.<br />
<br />
Also now that its July, I'm moving at the end of the month. I'm heading from CO to WA. Since I'm Mel's PA and I handle guest bloggers and reviewers and a more, those things will be placed on hiatus. Once I'm settled in my new hacienda we'll see where things stand and decide what will be picked back up.<br />
<br />
You may have noticed I said reviewers in that last part. While we love sending books out for review there has been a change in how reviews are being se<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;">en especially on Amazon. You may have noticed the new term on reviews: </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #e47911; font-family: Arial, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 16px;">Amazon Verified Purchase</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;">. What that means is the person who reviewed the book, bought the book. It wasn't given to them by the author or whomever (review site) and they aren't part of a Street Team (a group of people basically on the author's side and destined to give a good review). We will still be sending books for review at some point but Mel and I need to sit down and discuss how to handle it.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;">That's about it for now. I'm sure I had more to say and let you all in on but I got distracted by the show I'm watching. lol</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;">Hope you have a great day. Oh and if you have any questions for me shoot me an email at either <a href="mailto:contact@melissaschroeder.net">contact@melissaschroeder.net</a> or <a href="mailto:authoraccomplice@gmail.com">authoraccomplice@gmail.com</a></span>Brandy Whttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13955929603185285111noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12884470.post-23157994351658272002012-06-27T00:30:00.000-05:002012-06-27T00:30:03.254-05:00Guest Author: Meg Lacey<!--StartFragment-->

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">I’m delighted to be guest blogging on Melissa Schroeder’s
blog and send a huge thank you to her for the opportunity to introduce myself
to her many fans. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 16.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">My name is Meg Lacey, and I have a new series </span><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Million Dollar Men,</span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> with the first
book, </span><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Million Dollar Mistake</span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">, coming
October 23, 2012 from Samhain Publishing.
I’ve previously written for Harlequin/Silhouette and am really excited
to join the Samhain Family. I also have a paranormal series coming out from
Imajinn Books this fall—</span><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Tales of the
Sparrow</span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">. The first book is </span><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">The Sparrow and The Hawk</span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">. Before I tell
you about these stories I’d like to tell you a bit about myself, in case you
have never heard of Meg Lacey. J </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 16.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Like all of you, I’ve always loved to read. My idea of
wealth is to buy whatever I want in a bookstore regardless of cost. I’ll bet
many of you think the same. I wrote my first novel in the sixth grade but my
writing career didn't last. Instead I went into theatre before ending up in
televison as a writer-producer. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 16.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Over the years, I've been an actress, director, producer,
copywriter, creative director, college instructor, creative dramatics teacher,
author, mime, mom, and a school bus driver—wow, are there stories in that experience! I’ve started two creative marketing
companies and worked in all media from network cable programming to games and
corporate initiatives; but always returned to writing. I have three married daughters, now
creating chaos in someone else’s life, and my true hero, my husband. He’s
survived life with four women, numerous female cats and dogs, and still
remembers how to tie his shoes. Now that’s a hero!</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 16.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Today’s publishing has opened up so many new avenues for
writers and readers. Everywhere you look you can find a new story to enjoy, a
new author to experience, new worlds to visit, and new characters to care
about. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 16.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">I’d like to introduce two of them, Raven Rutledge and
Nicholas Demetrios, the stars of </span><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Million
Dollar Mistake</span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">. I hope you will want to know them better. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 16.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">If you had an opportunity to fall in love with a tall, dark
and handsome millionaire, would you? I sure would. I guess the exception would
be Raven Rutledge, but she comes from the super-wealthy Kristoff Family so
maybe she isn’t a good judge of the kind of man most women would dream
about. And, Nicholas Demetrious,
is definitely dream material. Their relationship is witty, flirtatious and—</span><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Hot! </span></i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">See for yourself:</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 16.0pt; margin-left: .5in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">In addition
to overseeing the financial affairs of the wealthy Kristoff family, Nicholas
Demetrious specializes in hauling its rambunctious members out of trouble.
Especially his distant cousin, Raven Rutledge.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 16.0pt; margin-left: .5in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">The tabloids
love her bad-girl antics, sexy pout, and body made for sin. Nicholas would love
to spank the bejesus out of her, but this time the situation is too serious to
entertain such a fantasy. A lucrative business deal with the Exeters is in
jeopardy, and Jackson Exeter Sr.’s ultimatum is clear: </span><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Remove this man-eater from my country house, or the deal is off.</span></i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .5in;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Raven is in way over her head. She accepted the
invitation to the Exeters’ Adirondack house party as a refreshing change from
her jet-setting lifestyle—until she learns the guest list includes his entire
family. His ex-girlfriend. And the junior Exeter’s intention to propose.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .5in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .5in;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">If ever she needed suave, sophisticated Nicholas’s
persuasive powers, it’s now. Then he’s there with a plan to get her out of this
tangle: sweep her off her feet. But their pretend passion turns all too real.
And what started out as a weekend of fun threatens to shatter into betrayal and
heartbreak.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">I
had a great time writing this book. There is a lot of humor in my writing since

Harlequin (available in ebook.) The stud in that title is not only Darcy

Region of Kentucky. You might want to check it out to get some background on
Nicholas. Meanwhile, I can’t wait to bring you more stories about </span><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Million Dollar Men</span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> and the women who love

<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Tales of
the Sparrow</span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"> is a humorous,
paranormal romantic adventure series set one week into the future—a time when
magic, myths and mystical creatures were all possible because the veil between
this world and the next had been stripped away. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">In the first book, </span><b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">The Sparrow and The Hawk</span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">, Jillie Harte,
the Sparrow, is a documentary filmmaker who also works undercover for the “NAS
(Normal, Abnormal & Strange) Agency”, a secret private agency sponsored by
an eccentric billionaire and run by her uncle whose mission is to protect the
world from evil in any form—from that done by ordinary humans to that done
through mystical direction. Under
the guise of creating a TV documentary on “Fashion and Decoration throughout
history,” Jillie is sent undercover to recover an ancient necklace with the
power to unleash evil on the world if it falls into the wrong hands. A lot of
people want the necklace, including her new cameraman, Griff Ryland. Griff, The
Hawk, is actually from an alternative dimension and as a shapechanger is able
to change to a cougar (a mountain lion) and a hawk when circumstances demand.
Magic, witchcraft, alternative dimensions and dragging around a cameraman who
looks like ‘sex-on-a-stick’ makes the team’s chase after the necklace dangerous,
exciting and fun. From San
Francisco, to New Mexico to New Orleans, and finally to San Diego, CA. Sparrow and Hawk must overcome each
obstacle until they finally find the ‘manipulator’, the ultimate evil whom they
must defeat to recover the necklace and eliminate the curse that surrounds it.
That’s not all happening though—Jillie and Griff must also face their
developing relationship and decide what to do about it. And they thought saving
the world from evil and chaos was hard!!!!</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

No great hairy surprise, then, that they keep popping up in

<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri;">Tristan’s Temptation,</span></b><span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri;"> the second book in the Trillo Brothers

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri;">Here is a taste
of Tristan:</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Tristan Trillo has one steadfast rule: Thou Shalt Not Fish
in the Company Pond. That puts his sexy secretary, Shannon Weiss, firmly out of
reach. But when Shannon discovers the depth of his desire for her, she vows to
seduce him. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
After a blazing, illicit tryst, Tristan insists that ‘they
can never do this again.’ So Shannon, ever the obedient assistant, makes
certain the next time, they do something completely different. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Poor Tristan is a man trapped between his steadfast rule and
a burning passion. A rock, if you will, and a very hard place.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
An Irresistible Temptation…</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
It was nearly ten that night when
he finally broke down and called her. He used the phone, because they’d already
done the computer thing, and he’d insisted that couldn’t happen again. The
phone, for some reason, he could justify.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
It took her a moment to pick up,
though he knew she was home. He could see the light streaming softly through
her windows as he stood on the bluff overlooking her house.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Hello?” Her voice was soft,
watery. Like she’d been crying.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Shannon?”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Tristan.” She fairly breathed his
name.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Are you all right?”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
She sniffled. “Oh yeah. I was just,
um, watching a movie. How are you?”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“I’m… good.” It was a lie. He was
hungry and antsy and annoyed. “I’ve been thinking about you.” Like incessantly.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Have you?” Her sniffles seemed to
have cleared up. He watched as she stepped out onto the patio, wearing a
terrycloth robe, cell phone in hand and looked up at his house. He sketched a
wave.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Yes. Have you been thinking about
me?”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“A little.” He heard the smile in
her voice.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Just a little?”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Well. Okay. A lot.” He watched as
she sat on a lounge chair and pulled a blanket over her lower body. It was a
cool night and her legs were bare.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Did you just get out of the
shower?” Something started to simmer in his groin.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“The bath.”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
He groaned at the vision her words
created in his head. “Did you have bubbles?”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Not tonight. But I could do that,
if it would interest you. I’d let you watch.”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Would you?” He liked that idea. He
liked it very much.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Did you touch yourself while you
were in the bath?”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
She chortled. “Of course, Tristan.
But do you know what?”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“What?” He was breathless with
curiosity.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“I’m touching myself right now.”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“What!” He nearly dropped his cell
over the cliff. Jesus. There. On the balcony. Outside!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Oh yeah.” She moaned deep and low.
He swore he could see her fingers undulating inside that robe, under the
blanket, a quarter mile away. In the shadows.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Shannon, Jesus. You’re killing
me.”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
She didn’t reply, but he watched as
her knees rose to points in the distance as she shifted her body. Anyone else
watching would have no idea that the woman relaxing on the lounger was slipping
her fingers deep inside her body, but Tristan knew. He knew with a visceral
jolt to his solar plexus as he heard her groan, the sharp gasps and the tiny
little whimpers of pleasure. “Hell.” He squinted his eyes in a vain attempt to
see her better. There in the dark. A quarter mile away.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Oh yes.” Her voice was like
velvet. “I’m so wet for you, Tristan. I’ve been thinking about you all day and
I want you in me sooo bad.”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Do you?” Hell. He wanted that too.
More than fucking anything.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
“Mmm. Do you know how hard my
little nub is? It’s like a stone. So hard. So swollen. It feels so good when I
touch it. I wish you could touch it. I wish you could lick it. I wish…”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
But Shannon was talking to herself.
Tristan had severed the connection and was heading for the door, his car keys
and his hard on making twin bulges in his jeans.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri;">If a little
playful BDSM makes you hot, you’ll enjoy the scene where Tristan bends Shannon
over his lap and paddles her bottom. And don’t miss their visit to the Pleasure
Palace where Tristan ties Shannon to a punishment chair and ruthlessly torments
her with a feather.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vEe371-VEMw/T8JhYDFscTI/AAAAAAAAAvo/qBHZsPI5li8/s1600/Military+Banner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="235" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vEe371-VEMw/T8JhYDFscTI/AAAAAAAAAvo/qBHZsPI5li8/s640/Military+Banner.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I have had a few reviews and emails about the books that my Harmless series and the military spinoff. I wanted to explain a litte about why they are different.<br />
Early in 2011 I had an idea. Now with my schedule then--I was writing secretly as Kiera and moving from VA to AL--I knew I couldn't do a bunch of full length book. I didn't really want to. See, my Harmless books already had that audience and I wanted to make sure they were a little different. There is no suspense and these books are more focused on the romance. They have BDSM elements in them, but they are not a complete exploration of the Dom/sub relationship.<br />
A lot of people might wonder why. The short answer is that I wanted to, lol. One of the great things about self-publishing is that I can do those things. But, while I love writing Harmless books, the longer book, the added suspense and the bigger plot thread of the Dom/sub relationship development. Sometimes though, I just want to concentrate on the romance.<br />
The other thing was I have had people ask me for years to write military romance. I have written them before in Operation Love but I hadn't written an entire series. Being a military wife, it is hard to find it romantic. Seriously. But we are coming to the end of our active time in the military so I decided to do it. I already had a military man in the books, Malachai Dupree, so I just spun it off with the Duprees. I have enjoyed it and plan on writing more. I have books planned through 2013 so there is a lot more to come.Melissa Schroederhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12782188611371146688noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12884470.post-59251468912551491942012-06-18T00:30:00.000-05:002012-06-18T00:30:03.709-05:00Guest Author & Giveaway: Cathryn Cade<!--StartFragment-->

<br />
Nawea Bay, a remote Hawaiian paradise, is just the haven Melia Carson needs to
escape the chill of heartache. Instead, she finds herself swept up in a
tropical heat wave, fueled by attraction to the handsome native she meets on a
snorkel tour. <br />
<br />
He’s big, powerful, hot enough to melt her defenses—and he’s not all he seems.
How else could he survive an injury that should have killed him…and why does
she dream of him garbed in ancient native dress and wreathed in flames?<br />
<br />
David “Malu” Ho’omalu is on the Big Island to find and destroy a cache of
dangerous designer drugs before they can be sold to his people. Fending off
amorous female tourists is part of the job, but one look in Melia’s blue eyes,
and his instincts scream that she is his.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

As Melia surrenders to the desire burning between them, she discovers more than
a fiery heritage that defies modern logic. She discovers a man who would
descend into the molten heart of the volcano to protect his island. And her…if
she can find the strength to trust her heart to him. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

him. Through the icy talons of pain gripping his head and shoulders, he focused
one eye. The other was swollen shut.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">The shadows shifting overhead were huge ferns hanging
from a steep bank. He turned his gaze the other way as much as he was able. The
ground sloped off abruptly past black lava boulders.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">Somewhere above, the tropical sun burned fierce and
bright, but only a little light filtered down through the layers of tropical
rain forest. Warm, humid shadows enclosed him. The bed on which he lay was
earth, fallen leaves and palm fronds. He was on Mauna Loa.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">Shifting carefully, he discovered he could move both his
hands and feet. Arms and legs worked too, although not without clawing from the
<i>pilikua nui</i>, the monster that seemed to have him by the side of his head
and neck. Slowly, he lifted a hand to touch his temple. It came away wet and
sticky. Blood.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">He remembered now—finding the woman, then hearing a noise
behind him, and pain exploding in his head. He was a fool. He’d let his guard
down. This was his punishment.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">Voices murmured in his head. The old ones. Somewhere, the
Ho’omalu were chanting for him. That was good, for theirs were not the only
voices he heard. His heart gave a great thump and began to race as a man called
out just above him on the mountainside.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">“Oh my God! Is she dead?” Footsteps pounded. Small lava
rocks skittered down, bouncing past him. A gecko, startled by the motion,
darted onto his chest, its tiny feet a familiar tickle. It ran down his belly,
toward his hand. Something draped over his fingers.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">Slowly, nearly groaning with the effort, he lifted his
hand and squinted at the gecko’s gift. It was a small, knotted length of
leather, broken in one place. His hand clenched around it. He’d last seen it
only hours before—on someone’s wrist.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">“She’s alive,” said another man’s voice. “Get over here,
help me lift her. Careful!”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">“Oh God. Who would do this to her?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">“What do you mean, who?” another man demanded. “Malu
disappeared at the same time, didn’t he?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">At this new voice, the injured man tensed. His good eye
narrowed to a slit as if his gaze could penetrate the ferns over his head. Rage
roared through him, hot and fierce, a deep, primal rumble in his chest battling
to erupt from his throat. Though he hadn’t seen who had clubbed him and beaten
the woman into unconsciousness, he knew. The evidence lay in his fist.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">He held himself still, sweating with the strain. He
mustn’t move yet. The enemy was just above him, but so was the injured woman
and her rescuers. He wouldn’t risk their safety. The only one who knew he was
down here was his attacker, who no doubt thought him safely dead. Before that <i>kepolo</i>
returned to check, he’d be gone.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">“Malu did this?” one man asked. “But…he seemed so nice.
Are you sure? Maybe he was attacked too.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">“I’ll worry about Malu. Right now, all of you help me get
this girl out of here.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">The footsteps moved slowly away, down the trail. The
voices of the rescuers faded.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">The voices in his head continued, steady and rhythmic,
soothing, encouraging. Spreading his hands flat on the warm earth, he drew on
the power of his island. He let the chant take him, let healing flow into his
battered body.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">Deep beneath him, the island rumbled as Pele stirred,
sighing in her sleep. She sent a stream of heat and healing up through her
island to him.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="vertical-align: top;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">He must rest, gather his strength. The blow that felled
him would have killed a lesser man, but he belonged to Pele, patroness of these
islands.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

shining white catamaran bobbed slightly under her feet, she grabbed the high
railing for balance.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

vacations. He was big, Polynesian heritage clear in his build. He wore a pair
of long, red swim trunks over one of the most impressive physiques she’d seen,
Hawaiian from his golden skin and short black hair to the dark tattoos on one
side of his broad, smooth chest and one huge shoulder. His white teeth flashed
as he smiled. Still smiling, he <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>turned and looked at Melia.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

thunk in her middle, as if that dark, liquid gaze had reached clear inside her.
A shiver of heat rocked her to her core, signaling the force of their
collision. She’d never seen this man before, but in some visceral way, she felt
as if she knew him.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>

This is kind of a special Sexy Saturday. Why? It is the first cover for many of the people involved.<br />
<br />
Last Sunday my friend and goddess of photography <a href="http://jennleblanc.photoshelter.com/" target="_blank">Jenn LeBlanc</a>, shot a new model, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/karl.biermann.5?sk=info" target="_blank">Karl Biermann</a> and he is a natural. Well, KARL is actually going to be on another cover of mine later, but I wanted to reveal this, his and model <a href="https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002121658183" target="_blank">Jaci Nudell</a>'s first cover.<br />
<br />
This is actually a first in many ways. I am lucky that one of my best friends in the world is my PA. Not everyone can say that, but I can. So, when Brandy expressed interest in doing covers, I had to give her a shot. Since Southern Sins is a brand new series for me, we decided to go for this one. <a href="http://www.creationsbykendra.com/" target="_blank">Kendra Egert's </a>talent is stamped all of my other series, so I didn't want to change that of course. I think for Brandy's first cover, she did a FANTASTIC job. I am really rather proud of her and can't wait to see what else she does after this. BEHOLD THE COVER!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fNwO6L0xkac/T9wBs4ftz4I/AAAAAAAAAw8/xsrxEnIteFw/s1600/Southern+Sins+600x900.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fNwO6L0xkac/T9wBs4ftz4I/AAAAAAAAAw8/xsrxEnIteFw/s320/Southern+Sins+600x900.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
This is an unproofed blurb. It is the series I was researching for when I went to <a href="http://melissaschroeder.blogspot.com/2011/10/savannah-and-beyond.html" target="_blank">Savannah</a> last fall. I love that city and have always wanted to do a series set there. All the books will be romantic suspense, sensual to erotic.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
20 years ago, it was a hot June evening when I married Les. And when I mean hot, I mean, we lived in Texas and it was freaking June...and the AC in the church gave out. It was horrible, but we made it through that and the 20 years since. We have made 15 moves, lived in six states, and had two natural and three canine kids. I often make threats about stabbing him with a fork, but through all of that, I wouldn't have wanted anyone else by my side. </div>

By BloodMy big release mid summer is Desire By Blood. It is a vampire tale set in Victorian England, but I was worried about the covers and packaging I had come up with. While I had loved what Kendra did with the original photos, I decided that we needed something different. I wanted to make sure everyone knew this was historical AND paranormal. I also came up with a subtitle for the books and changed the title up. <div>
So, I got a pic from Jenn Leblanc and tadaaaaaaa:<div>

<div style="font: 12.0px Arial; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">The culture of the ancient Celts and the mist and magic of Wales, Scotland, and Ireland fascinates me. The paranormal beliefs in Celtic mythology inspire me. I’ve always seen seductive blood suckers such as vampires as more feminine than masculine, but in the old horror movies they are mainly men. Yet the Celtic fey vampiric creatures are all women, which makes more sense to me. </span></div>

<div style="font: 12.0px Arial; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">I am intrigued by folk takes of a type of Celtic vampiric fey, the Scottish baobhan sith (baa'-van shee), who wear green dresses and in some legends have goat hooves for feet. They are also called dancing vampires. The gorgeous temptresses appear before their human victims, usually young men coming from the local pub late at night. Clad in scanty, green silk dresses displaying their shapely, sensuous bodies they entice these stumbling men to dance with them. Burning with desire for the hot embrace of a seductress’s slender arms and the softness of a dancer’s supple thigh, the men enjoy dancing with the baobhan sith, at first. Once the men grow exhausted of the nonstop dancing, the baobhan sith strike. Without warning, their long nails transform into talons of death, to rip the flesh of their victims and drink of the crimson stream. They don’t have fangs, their nails extend like claws and they use them as a deadly weapon. </span></div>
<div style="font: 12.0px Arial; margin: 5.0px 0.0px 5.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Some of the other ways Celtic vampires differ from their more traditional, fang growing counterparts is they don’t turn mortals and no one stakes them through the heart. With the baobhan sith it’s all about the cairn. When a stone in a cairn is overturn, the baobhan sith are able to pass through to our realm. To get rid of them just stack the stones back on the cairn and they cannot leave their fey realm underhill. </span></div>
<div style="font: 12.0px Arial; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Of course I thought what a great character for an erotica paranormal romance and I wrote a quickie for Ellora’s Cave with a baobhan sith as the heroine, Dance of the Vampires. </span></div>
<div style="font: 12.0px Arial; margin: 5.0px 0.0px 5.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">I have a blurb and excerpt of Dance of the Vampires below. I recently signed a contract with Ellora’s cave for a quickie sequel to Dance of the Vampires, which is titled Vampire Highland Fling. When I get a release date I’ll be sure to notify everyone with a tweet and a status update through facebook and twitter. </span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">One of Ian’s six brothers kick over the stones of an ancient cairn, unknowingly freeing Sorcha and her six sisters from underhill. The seven handsome Scots are enchanted by the voluptuous temptresses until they turn on the men. Ian captures Sorcha, giving his brothers a chance to escape. With the dark fey woman still in his grasp, Ian is saved by the rising sun.</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Her sisters vanish with the light of dawn and Sorcha is trapped in the mortal realm. The seductress can’t resist Ian’s attentions as he stirs throbbing urges she’s never felt before. Ian is bewitched by the wild delights offered by this vampire siren. He can’t get enough of her. Still, her wicked sisters and his highland brothers want nothing more than to attack and kill each other. Will Sorcha and Ian’s sizzling passion prove strong enough to overcome the differences between the dark fey and humans?</span></div>

<div style="font: 12.0px Arial; margin: 5.0px 0.0px 5.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Ian wobbled out the door of the pub ahead of his six brothers. Focusing as hard as he could, pushing one foot in front of the other, he stumbled across a field in the moonlight. A clump of gorse and heather brushed against his jeans.<br />
<br />
"Brother, be careful not to step on a thistle in the dark," Lachlan yelled in slurred speech.<br />
<br />
"I have my boots on," Ian snapped.<br />
<br />
"Are you sure, little brother?" Malcolm, the oldest, called out. "You usually run barefoot and cry like a girl when you get a thorn in your foot."<br />
<br />
"I was five years old the last time that happened." Tired of the lot of them, he stomped ahead. "I'd go off by myself and leave all of you here, but someone has to lead you home."<br />
<br />
Well past midnight, silence engulfed the field until Calin burst out laughing and couldn't stop.<br />
<br />
"Shut up," Angus, the middle brother, yelled.<br />
<br />
"He's hammered." Errol nodded his head toward him. "He cannot help it."<br />
<br />
"Well, I do not know what's so funny or why we had to leave right when I spotted the pretty women in the pub."<br />
<br />
Tavish kicked a stone with his foot as he tromped through the grass with his brothers.<br />
<br />
"Because we are all drunk." Lachlan's body wavered, leaning forward then back. "That is why the lassies started looking so bonny to you. Those were the same ones you called old and ugly when they first came in, you bampot."<br />
<br />
"They were old, that was Liam's mother and aunt." Angus grabbed Tavish's head and jostled it back and forth. He ducked out of Angus' way.<br />
<br />
"Ooch!" Ian jumped back.<br />
<br />
"What is wrong with you?" Malcolm set his hand on his hip.<br />
<br />
Ian pointed to the ancient mound of stones caked over with dirt and grass. "I almost stepped on a fairy mound." His stomach knotted.<br />
<br />
"Brother, are you afraid of a pile of old stones?" Calin threw his head back and rocked with laughter.<br />
<br />
"It's a cairn." Ian's heart still thudded from the near miss. "Any who disturb it will be cursed."<br />
<br />
"I dare you to knock it over." Errol crossed his arms over his chest.<br />
<br />
Ian stepped back, a horrified look on his handsome face. "I will not."<br />
<br />
"I will." With long, sure strides, Tavish stepped toward the ancient gravesite.<br />
<br />
"Do not do it." Ian's belly clenched even tighter, until he felt sharp jabs of pain.<br />
<br />
Before the other six could stop him, Tavish drew back his foot and crashed it into the sacred cairn with a hard kick. A loud, sharp gasp from each of his brothers hung in the air. One lone stone rolled free of the mound.<br />
<br />
Malcolm's mouth dropped open. "You disturbed the fey."<br />
<br />
"You've done it now." Lachlan stepped back, attempting to separate himself from the sacrilege.<br />
<br />
"He dared me." Tavish pointed at Errol. "I had to do it, now didn't I?"<br />
<br />
"Errol's a turnip-headed bampot," Calin shouted. "You too, Tavish."<br />
<br />
"I do not like it." Ian shook his head. "It's sacred. It's cursed." The knot in his stomach froze, growing as cold as ice.<br />
<br />
"This is bad." Angus shook his head.<br />
<br />
"Let's keep walking." Calin slid his foot forward with a confident stride.<br />
<br />
Malcolm bobbed his head. "We should hurry home before something happens."<br />
<br />
"We are," Errol snapped. "We're in this field taking a shortcut, remember?"<br />
<br />
"Come on." Malcolm headed away from the disturbed monument. "Walk faster." He took the lead as the others followed.<br />
<br />
"Look." Ian came to an abrupt stop.<br />
<br />
His brothers froze as their gazes turned to where he pointed his finger. Seven women, all in odd dresses of green tartan silk, stood beside the cairn. Their lush, scarlet lips curved into smiles as seductive as warm kisses.<br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Hello! And thanks so much to Melissa for allowing me to guest blog today. These last two weeks have been crazy busy. My new book, <a href="http://www.jasminejade.com/p-10081-personal-adventures.aspx"><span style="color: blue; text-decoration: underline;"><i>Personal Adventures</i></span></a>, released on the 18th from Ellora’s Cave, my mom’s doing yet another twenty four hour cycling race, my dad’s off in New Mexico riding his horses and roping cattle for fun and there’s yet more books to be written and edited. It’s a good kind of busy and crazy, I wouldn’t trade it for anything! I know a lot of my activities in comparison to my parents seem rather tame. I write. They rope two hundred pound cows or stay on a bicycle for hundreds of miles. I still like to think I have a healthy sense of adventure thanks to the gypsy lifestyle I grew up with traveling around to rodeos. Yes, I’m a rodeo brat. Among other things.</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Sometimes I wonder if I’m going to end up being That Relative at holidays who always tells That One Story. You know that story, about the time they and that other person did that really awesome stuff and things happened and it was so funny or crazy or neat, except you’ve heard it so often that it’s not anymore.</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">This got me thinking, what stories am I going to tell when I’m the cranky old cat lady with the flame-painted-walker? So, I submit to you my top five runners for, That One Story…</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">1. This one time, when I was living in Thailand, I didn’t think it was a good idea to warn the other Americans about the toilets. You see, in Thailand they use what’s called a squatty potty. Think of a porcelain toilet bowl set into the ground with rubber grips on the side, if it’s a fancy one. So it’s time to stop at a road side outhouse and the guide that’s driving us to the city we’ll be living in looks at me and says very seriously, “They need to use the bathroom.” I had to remember that I was an old hand to squatty potties, having been introduced to them in Russia. I had to take about eight very girly Americans into a cinderblock and plywood structure and demonstrate to them how to use a squatty potty. There are pictures, and here is proof. During this time, I also learned how to wash, clean and fry up crickets. They are a common snack food and taste like a cross between popcorn and fried green beans. It’s not the taste that gets you, it’s the legs stuck between your teeth.</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">2. When I was twenty, I got the opportunity to be a roadie for two of my favorite bands for a week. During those seven days, I broke my arm, refused to go to a hospital, had an earring mostly torn out of my ear, slept in my car, drank nothing but Rockstar and passed out in my best friend’s ultimate band guy crush’s arms. I had no clue who he was. I have nerve damage from not getting my arm looked at. But it was worth it.</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">3. This one time when I was on a ski trip, a really hot snowboarder and I took the pony tow up to the top of the mountain where the double black diamond runs were. At the time I was on snowblades, which are mini skis, think the roller blades of the snow sports world. A double black diamond ski run is incredibly hard, usually very steep and treacherous. But I was going to do it because there was the Hot Snowboarder. We select the run from the map we want to do, and head in that direction. The snow was beautiful, pristine, perfectly fresh. No one had skied on it that day. With a “Yahoooo!” we took off down this run. I took it at an almost straight shot down because I was trying to impress Snowboarder. At one point I even did a somersault, rolled to my feet and kept going. I was feeling pretty bad ass. We got to the bottom of that run where it joined kind of an easy trail that would allow us to return to the lift, and suddenly a swarm of ski patrol is all over us. Apparently the run had been marked off because they were setting off avalanche bombs to knock snow off the ridge. It took some serious groveling to keep our lift tickets.</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">4. I grew up doing rodeo, primarily trick riding, but I also got to do a few stints as a rodeo clown. This one time I’m out in the arena in full rodeo clown get up, and I can’t get back to the barrel fast enough before a steer that had just been bucked charged me. I wound up being shoved against the fence and tossed around like a rag doll by this eight hundred pound steer. I escaped mostly unharmed, save some interesting bruises. I finished the performance and my mother never let me be a rodeo clown again.</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">5. This story has a lot in common with #2 up there. For about two years I played and was part of the local roller derby league. I worked my butt off to get on a team, and put in a lot of time skating outside of practices. A speed skater friend of mine and I went to a public skate and thanks to a tweenager skating the wrong direction, I had to make the choice to either hit the kid going really fast and hurt her badly, or go face first into the wall. I went into the wall and fractured my knuckles. The doctors didn’t want to cast it and wanted me to not practice. I’d worked too long to not play, so I duct taped my hand to a piece of plastic under my wrist guards and went to practices anyways. That’s dedication. It was also a really stupid choice.</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">It can never be said that Sidney Bristol has had a ‘normal’ life. She is a recovering roller derby queen, former missionary, and tattoo addict. She grew up in a motor-home on the US highways (with an occasional jaunt into Canada and Mexico), traveling the rodeo circuit with her parents. Sidney has lived abroad in both Russia and Thailand, working with children and teenagers. She now lives in Texas where she splits her time between a job she loves, writing, reading and belly dancing.</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Elise gulped down a deep breath to steady her nerves and pushed away from the shed. Her stomach fluttered and her palms were moist. The cool evening air caressed her legs and whispered up her skirt, kissing bare flesh. Her nipples were tight, hard peaks. She had tried to find her one real bra with actual lace, but it had been a lost cause. If it wasn’t for her lack of breasts she could have borrowed one of her roommates’ bras like she’d “borrowed” the dress she wore. Her breasts weren’t much more than walnuts, but it was the idea of getting ready that had mattered at the time. She didn’t typically need to wear a bra and she never wore a dress, but she’d do both for Carey.</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Ahead, light spilled from every window in the cabin. The tall pines stood sentinel around it. It was a beautiful home he’d had built not long after taking the job at Adventures. She’d been jealous of it in the beginning, but she spent a lot of time there, so she got to enjoy it almost as much as he did.</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">The house was a variation of the single-room cabins settlers used to build, very no-nonsense. A dividing wall separated his bedroom from the rest of the house, and the bathroom had an entrance into both spaces. The front and back porches made up three fourths of the square footage of the actual house, and more often than not was where they hung out. Again, he’d used local people to build it. In true bachelor style, it was furnished with comfort in mind, but that was how she liked things as well, so she had no complaint about the cabin or Carey. Except that she wanted what he had.</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">As she stepped around the truck, her stomach threatened to mutiny. Who was she kidding? She didn’t have any business being here.</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Movement in the far right window rooted her to the spot. Had he seen her? If he hadn’t, maybe she could back out of the drive and leave. Peering at the window, she waited for any sign that she might have been seen.</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Carey stepped into view, perfectly framed by the window, buck-ass naked. And what a nice ass it was. The round globes were as tan as his chest. Elise imagined him sunbathing naked on the rocks behind his house. Her mouth dried. Wide shoulders tapered to a stomach she knew was firm and flat. He was muscular from hours of hard work, not hanging out at a gym. The tattoo circling his right arm stood out as the only bit of color. She’d gone with him to get the tattoo and let him squeeze her hand. It was a simple black silhouette of the mountains, but it symbolized his love for the great outdoors.</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">He turned, giving her a profile shot. His head tipped forward and his hand grasped his cock. He didn’t jerk himself hard, but it was a strong touch, sliding up his stiff flesh.</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Oh god. Elise’s heart knocked against her chest and her breath hitched. She wanted to do that. She wanted to feel his skin against her palm, caress him in a way that would make him groan.</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Her knees wavered at the hedonistic thoughts. Swaying, she caught herself with a hand against the hood of his truck.</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">The headlights flashed and the horn began honking. Elise yelped and jumped back, her heart racing as the continuous sounds of the alarm echoed through the night. She looked from the truck to the window—</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Carey was gone.</span></div>
<div style="font: 11.0px Calibri; margin: 0.0px 0.0px 10.0px 0.0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">“Shit!”</span></div>
