Soon, I tell you, I will have a break, but move years bite me in the ass all the time. I am almost done with Sinner's Delight, ETA to my editor Monday, and Grace Under Pressure edits are almost done. In between work, I haven't played much online because I started doing trailers for authors, and I have been emailing, calling, shouting to DC this week.
I know most people who come to this blog know that I do pay attention to politics. I think if you don't, you are just screwing yourself. This week, when you weren't paying attention(for those of you who don't) we pretty much slipped closer to fascism and it has scared me. You can call me an overreactor all your want, but we did. We legalized torture. We also did away with habeas corpus. If you don't know what that is, it is your right to ask WHY you are imprisoned. Think it can't happen to you? Think again. At the whim of the preznit, you can be stripped of this right, thrown in jail and forgotten, just with the label enemy combatant. And what is that? Someone "perceived" to be helping the cause of our enemy. Oh, and your family too. You do know they have a children's area at Gitmo, don't you. The youngest child there I believe is 7, I might be wrong. And if you think it can't happen in a democracy, have you seen the movie In the Name of the Father? This puts our nation at risk and more importantly, it is putting our soldiers at more of a risk. The 100 attacks a day they are taking on is not enough for these politicians apparently.
If you have never heard of Thom Hartmann, I wanted to leave you with a bit of a story he outlined a few years ago. It is entitled, When Democracy Failed, and I suggest you read the whole thing.
"It started when the government, in the midst of an economic crisis,
received reports of an imminent terrorist attack. A foreign ideologue had
launched feeble attacks on a few famous buildings, but the media largely ignored his relatively small efforts. The intelligence services knew, however, that the odds were he would eventually succeed."
He's not talking about America. Go do your civic duty and read it and make sure to vote.
Sorry for the preachy diary, but this week has been a tough one to take. With a husband and so many friends in themilitary, things like this irritate the living hell out of me, especially when it is spun. Going back to work, and I will check in when I succeed in finishing up Sinner's Delight.
